How to Fix Blockage and Abnormal Issues in Electric Regulating Valves-1.png

An electric regulating valve is a precision instrument, but it can often face challenges like blockages or mechanical jams. These issues usually happen during the early stages of a new system or after a major overhaul. To keep your production running smoothly, you must know how to handle these failures quickly.

Effective Methods to Clear Valve Blockages

When weld slag, rust, or debris gets stuck in the balance holes or under the valve cover, the valve core can become scratched or jammed. Here are two primary ways to solve this:

  • Internal Cleaning Method: First, you should disassemble the valve to remove slag and debris. If the sealing surface is damaged, you must polish it to restore its function. Additionally, open the bottom plug to flush any residue out of the balance hole. Before returning to normal service, leave the valve fully open for a short time to let the medium wash away any remaining particles.
  • External Flushing Method: If your medium contains solid particles that settle easily, you can use external gas or steam. By opening an external valve, you can flush the bottom of the valve cover without removing the regulating valve itself. This allows the system to return to work with minimal downtime.

If your valve requires more than just cleaning, you may need a deeper repair. You can learn more about the complete process in our previous guide on Electric Regulating Valve Maintenance and Management.

Precision Grinding for Leak Prevention

Over time, leaks may develop between the valve core and the seat. When this happens, grinding is the most effective solution.

  • Manual and Mechanical Grinding: You can use specialized abrasive paste with the correct grain size to smooth out the surfaces.
  • Uniform Force: It is vital to apply even pressure during grinding. Afterward, perform a polishing step to ensure the core and seat align perfectly. Finally, always conduct a sealing test after assembly to verify the repair.

Replacing Key Wear Parts and Components

To maintain the high performance of your automated system, certain parts must be replaced when they show signs of fatigue:

  1. Packing Box Replacement: When replacing the packing, check the valve stem for any scratches. Ensure the new packing is installed correctly and the compression force is even. This prevents leaks while keeping friction low.
  2. Rotating Parts: If any internal moving parts are worn, replace them immediately. After the repair, ensure the parts move flexibly and that the transmission gap is as small as possible.
  3. Diaphragm Maintenance: For pneumatic systems, rubber diaphragms are prone to fatigue. Always replace them with the same specifications and ensure even tension to prevent air leaks.

Cleaning and Adjusting the Pneumatic Amplifier

If your system uses a pneumatic amplifier, dirt in the compressed air can block the throttle hole. In this case, use a fine steel wire to clear the blockage. When reassembling, make sure the diaphragm receives uniform force. Furthermore, you can adjust the compression of the internal steel ball to tune the amplifier gain and prevent resonance.

Why OMKEE Solutions Reduce System Failures

At OMKEE (Wuhan OMEC Technology), we build our products to handle tough industrial conditions. Our OMK series electric actuators are designed to minimize the very problems discussed above:

  • Superior Sealing (IP68): Our actuators prevent dirt and moisture from entering the internal housing, which protects the stroke control devices and electronics.
  • Precision Manufacturing: We use imported 4-axis machining centers to ensure that every valve core and seat has the highest level of accuracy, reducing the risk of friction and jams.
  • Expert Engineering: With over 10 years of experience, our engineers design flow paths that minimize debris buildup and enhance the life of the Japanese Sakae potentiometers used for feedback.

Whether you need a new modulating electric actuator or technical support for your current system, OMKEE provides the reliability your business deserves.
